KVL3000 Only has ASTRO 25 MODE?

Post by kotaguchi »

Hi,

If a KVL3000 unit only has ASTRO 25 mode, does it still have the ability to load key in conventional P25 IMBE and analog Securenet?

The unit has DES(DES-OFB/DES-XL).

Thanks in advance.

Ko,

With regard to the KVL's, ASTRO 25 mode refers only to CKR key management which is a standard for key loading. If the KVL has ASTRO 25 mode you can load other vendors equipment which supports key loading via the P25 standard. It does not have anything to do with the underlying protocol and will work with Tunking, Conventional, SecureNET, P25 Digital, whatever.

If it only has ASTRO 25 mode it will not support the old PID style key management which the 3011[A-D]X key loaders supported. I would assume that any non-astro product can not be key loaded using CKR key management.

ASTRO25 mode is an upgrade from ASN (Advanced Securenet) - so any KVL that has ASTRO25 automatically has ASN also since its included as standard.

ASN and ASTRO25 mode are both options... and they both cost $$. You can order a KVL with only ASTRO25 mode, and it won't do ASN/PID.

I thought that buying ASTRO25 mode included ASN. Happy to be proven wrong though!

On the KVL3000+, it looks like ASN mode is required if you are buying a KVL period.

I don't have any notes on the plain non-plus 3000 so I can't guess.

The 4000 looks like you can go either way - just one is required.
