Heliflex antenna # 8505816K22 vs. K01

Post by W4KRR »

Does anyone know the difference, if any, between the Motorola Heliflex antenna, part number 8505816K22 and the part number 8505816K01? Both fit the MT1000, Saber, etc. and both are for the 136 to 150 MHz (yellow threads) range. The only physical difference is that the 'K22 is about 1/2 inch longer. Are they the same? Why the two different part numbers? Maybe an older vs. newer part number?

Thanks for any insight.

Yes, many part#'s changed over the years and those are about 30 yrs. old so they had plenty of time to change. That same antenna was also sold as NAD6541A. The 85#s were sold thru parts div. and the NAD was as an accessory. Far as the different length I'd bet one is mis-marked and is electrically a black mid split antenna. Saw that before on those same antenna's.

Good info, thanks. I would assume the lower split antenna would be the longest; the 6.5 inch as opposed to the 6.0 inch. Could be a mis-mark like you said.

I hope they don't mis mark too often! I have both the yellow and black dot Saber antennas ('K21 and 'K22) and they are almost the exact same length, in fact, only maybe a millimeter difference.

I have found over the years that the lenght has been different for the same model antenna. It had to do with who was making them for Motorola at the time. I have 2 of the newer style MX thread for HT1250's both with black bases both Motorola original antennas one is about 1/4 longer
