MTX won't take programming

Post by KE7JFF »

So I have a weird issue with an MTX on 900 MHz that a friend gave me to program for ham use. He was having the same issues as I was

The radio reads fine in RSS but when you make changes and write back to the radio, it acts like nothing has changed. I can confirm this as I added more channels to the radio and turning the channel selector to where it should be gets the loud buzz sound. I tried changing other options but no luck. My RIB and cables have ruled out so I am confused here.

Have you added the new channels in both the personalities screen and the zone/channel assignment? You have to add them in both. Apologies if that sounds simple, but that is a common error when adding channels to those radios.

I'm pretty certain I did but I will double check.

This happened to me years ago when working with some systems sabers. Everything acted normal programming wise but nothing changed. It ended up being low voltage to the rib. Apparently there was enough to fool the computer into thinking things were working but not enough to actually write to the radio. Don't ask my how this is possible but I saw it dozens of times and was completely baffled until I ended up changing out the wall wart power supply.

I had this happen with MTS radios with old firmware trying to use newer version of CPS/RSS, just used a older version and it seemed to work fine...

I believe the firmware in this MTX is the most recent one before being EOL'd.

Are you using DOS RSS or are you trying to use the MTS 2000 Windows CPS? (Which shouldn't work anyway, but I have to ask).

I figured it out.

Apparently, somehow the channel selector rotary on the top got programmed to do "Zone Select" and the B position on the ABC switch was selected to do Zone Select too, so a quick change in RSS on the channel rotary fixed the issue.
