Astro Saber Model I Scan Indication

Post by MotoFAN »

Hi all!

I own a lot of Astro Sabers and like Model III, but I have programmed scan lists on Model I for the first time only today.

And I find out that Astro Saber I absolutely does NOT indicate active scan mode:

- 'Scan' button (Side Button # 2) sounds identically on Scan On and Scan Off;
- Top LED absolutely doesn't blinks.

How to determine in what mode works AS I - scans or not?

I cannot find any setting which would allow to make it.

Firmware 07.00.02.00 / DSP N07.03.06.

The answer is "There ain't none!"

Better, however, than the standard Saber I where you couldn't scan at all.

Would you be able to set the Scan mode for either the Concentric or A/B switch? That way you can tell what state its in just by glancing at it.

If you don't need Securenet operation you can use the Secure switch on top of the radio to select between Clear and Scan. The Clear position is fixed but the other position is programmable. The program won't allow you to use what is usually the Zone switch for Scan. If you try it you get red letters (the bane of all Astro Saber programmers).

Need 32 channels & hi/lo power on switches, so here's my trick to determine if in scan or not.

Monitor button is programmed as monitor
Rat 1 button is programmed for scan
Rat 2 button is programmed for Priority Scan

Ok, now your unsure if your scanning or not....

Press the monitor button, and immediately within 1/3 second press the Rat 2 priority scan button
Does the radio make a beep or boop sound? If it makes a boop, your not currently scanning.

If the radio makes a beep, then the radio is already scanning, and you just made that channel priority
scan. Your currently scanning.

So when I just hear the boop, I know I can just press Rat 1 to start scanning if needed. When I here
the beep, I know to press Rat 1 once to stop scanning (and get rid of the priority scan member),
then press Rat 1 again if I need to start scanning.

Make sense?
