HT1250LS+ programming problems

Post by Hey Nurse »

Hey all....

Bought an HT1250LS+ and a RIBless cable...

Everytime i try to read my radio, I get the " Couldn't open port, check if device/RIB/ powered on + check Device/RIB/RIB to computer conntections" error.

Can anyone provide some guidance on troubleshooting this; I am new to the PRO series CPS.

I am Running CPS 6.04.00 on vista, but doing so in compatability mode for XP SP2. T

(I have a sneaking suspicion that the cable actually NEEDS a rib, and will probably go get the proper adaptor in the AM, but any help is appriciated)

I think your problem is running the CPS (which is a waayy-old version BTW) on Vista. Even in "XP compatibility mode", I don't think the OS will allow the CPS to address the COM ports correctly.

You need to start with the basics. Find a PC with XP and a Serial port. I have used a ribless cable many times before on an HT1250LS but it was a serial-ribless (DB9) not USB.

Will do....

I have used Compatability mode to run a number of other CPS programs (ie MTS2K) without a problem though, so this was a last thought... Thanks for the advice!

what's the firmware version on the tag on the back of the radio? it's still possible that your cps won't read it even if cps and cable setup was correct?

try a real Motorola cable. The Ebay cables are a crap shoot, why risk bricking a radio with some POS cable? The OEM cables aren't too much more. Most of the problems people experience come from unreliable programming cables.

Cable have a DB9 or DB25 connector on it? DB9 probably RIBless, DB25 probably needs a RIB

@MT2Kdes: it's generic, but I havent EVER had a problem with that party's products and the cable is BRAND new.

@Escomm: It's a DB9 and the seller advises it is RIBless.

I am thinking that the CPS is too old or there is a problem with my trying to run this in compatibility mode like Victor Xray spoke of.
