using a 900 mhz maxtrac as a beacon
I was going to stick up my 900 mhz maxtrac as a beacon (just to see how well it worked before I put more effort into it) and was curious how much of a bear it is to just mod the transmitter.

I can't wait to get my paws on this.
I'll be glad to make a webpage for those who want to set up their own 33cm beacon. I have to just put this one together, first, though. Expect seeing my advice as I work step-by-step.
Expect to find full-color photos of KC8RYW/B, wiring diagrams and other useful stuff.
I hope to have it all set by Summer 2003 [remember, ham is hobby, right? ]
Thanks Seth!

Re: using a 900 mhz maxtrac as a beacon
There is a good Yahoo group "AR902Mhz" where you will find info for getting on 902. GTX ht's seem to be the easiest way to get on the air (just requires a band limit hack on the software).sglass wrote:I was going to stick up my 900 mhz maxtrac as a beacon (just to see how well it worked before I put more effort into it) and was curious how much of a bear it is to just mod the transmitter.

I am looking at this band as well. Trying to get a 900 GTX ht now & scrounging for some repeater radios. Common radios used for repeaters would be the GTX mobile for TX & the 800/900 meg Maxtrac for RX.
We currently don't have any repeaters on the air here in KC, but I know of one that is being constructed right now.
