Anyone having issues with XPR7550 & Speakermics ?

Post by NE2WAY »

Anyone else having issues with the new xpr7550 when using speaker microphones?

We have a customer who bought 12 of these radios to replace there HT1250's
They are using the Motorola PMMN4024 Speaker Microphones

We have had 3 issues with them
1. Microphone was cutting in and out - figuring it was a bad cable we replaced the microphone and that seemed to solve the issue.

2. We had a microphone stayed keyed and would not unkey until he removed the microphone from the radio. The radio then locked up until he powered it off and back on.

3. Another microphone stayed keyed but was able to be unkeyed by pushing the PTT on the mic several times in a row.

The customer has had the radios less than a week so needless to say they are not happy with the investment.

I am trying to determine if these are mechanical issues with the microphone or if its a software issue with the radios.

Anyone else having any issues?

Thanks,
Jason

Sounds like a possible RF issue.

Can you try a different RSM? As in different MODEL number?

A while back I bought an APX/TRBO speaker/mic online. It was branded/tagged Motorola. It quit transmitting after a couple
of weeks; just stopped dead in its tracks. Sorry I don't know the exact model but it was a PMM-something. I saw the exact same
unit for sale online, but not branded Motorola for about $25 so I bought it and put the Motorola sticker on it. It's worked fine
but the original Motorola unit was a dud, that's for sure. I would have to say that it certainly looks as if Motorola buys junk and
then puts their name on the units, and when I say it was the same unit I mean that exactly.

I just got in 10 OTTO Mics we are going to switch them out with the Motorola and hope it solves the issue. Now just have to figure out what to do with the other mics.

Why, return them to Motorola as defective, of course!

Same issue is happening with the OTTO mics now which would lead me to believe it is an issue with the radio.

the PMN4024A mics have this issue.. I have found most times it is due to a bad connection .. try removing the mic, power down the radio and make sure it is secure and screwed on tight and the problem should go away. I had this problem and even replaced the mic .. and then found there to be nothing wrong with the mic or the radio.

I have been using the PMMN4025A on both my XPR7550 and APX7000 with no issues. Not sure what the difference is between the 4024 and 4025.
