At the risk of sounding ignorant......does the XTS2500 have the capability of encryption as in the 5000?

Yes it does but it does not support multikey. i.e the 5000 can support 16 keys but the 2500 can only support 1 key.

i'm sure this will be addressed at some point on the 2500.

multikey is a flashable option of the radio firmware....

so those older 4 meg 2500's -..... perhaps not.

but i bet the 8 meg 2500's can do it... just has to be put into the field by M...

XTS2500 is capable of multi-key. Here are all of the part #'s by model:

Part Number Description
PMLN4924A ASSY,PCB,MN,SECURE BRD M1.5 AES
PMLN4925A ASSY,PCB,MN,SECURE BRD M1.5 DES,DES-XL,DES-OFB
PMLN4926A ASSY,PCB,MN,SECURE BRD M1.5 ADP
PMLN4927A ASSY,PCB,MN,SECURE BRD M2 AES
PMLN4928A ASSY,PCB,MN,SECURE BRD M2 DES,DES-XL,DES-OFB
PMLN4929A ASSY,PCB,MN,SECURE BRD M2 ADP
PMLN4930A ASSY,PCB,MN,SECURE BRD M3 AES
PMLN4931A ASSY,PCB,MN,SECURE BRD M3 DES,DES-XL,DES-OFB
PMLN4932A ASSY,PCB,MN,SECURE BRD M3 ADP

DES-OFB factory installed options for both the XTS2500 and the XTL2500.

XTS2500
Q625 DES-OFB encryption
Q159 UCM Hardware Kit
H869 Multi Key

XTL2500
G625 DES-OFB
G159 UCM Hardware Kit
W969 Multi Key

There was also a sticky at the top..

XTS5000 supports 40 encryption keys, not 16.

U need a KVL3000 to load more than 16 keys though, and you have to use CKR to manage keys 17-40.

As KS4VT pointed out the XTS2500 does support multikey encryption. I've field upgraded a bunch already.

Good news! :)

How many keys? Is it 16 or 40 like the 5k's have?

This is off the spec sheet:

48 common Key Reference (CKR)
Encryption Keys
16 Physical Identifier (PID) Encryption
Keys

This is the same as the spec sheet on the 5k.

Another note - the spec sheet says only one algorythm capacity but we have received XTS2500 field upgrade flash kits for multi-key operation. We are running DES, DES-OFB, and DES-XL.
