Does anyone know if the XTS2500 is a better model then XTS-3000,3500,5000 series?

the 2500 is a newer model.

it has an much improved processor and DSP in it.

the 3000 is no longer made...

the 3000/5000 have readily available encryption modules available....in the used market.

i've NEVER seen a "used" XTS2500 secure board... EVER.... the only route is to buy the board new from motorola.


so if you need encyrption... and don't want to pay moto $700.... go with the 3000/5000.

if you don't forsee any need for secure - go with the 2500... smaller radio too.

So far I use my XTS3000's for encryption and my 2500I when I don't need secure... After opening an XTS2500I up I'm not even sure you can put an encryption board in the thing.. Unless it's a surface mount chip?

The 2500i does support OFB/XL, we just unleashed some model 1.5s in the fleet with enc

There used to be a sticky that had a list of the xts2500 encryption board model #'s.
The 2500 boards are unique to each model (1, 1.5, 2, & 3) and we did some 2's and 3's
over the past few months.

I would love to know where it goes - Time to order the service manuel for the XTS2500I Model 3 - Anyone have the part number for the XTS2500I SM?

I have the part # for the 2500 just not the I version and I would assume they are different.

The part numbers are in the old Knowledge Base that we are trying to transfer over. If someone really needs them, I'll try to copy/paste them over.

I've carried both the 2500 and the 3000 on duty and I like the 2500 much better, lighter more reliable, seems to eat less batteri power, fits in my gear easier. The 3000s were like carrying a large brick plus I dont beleive the 3000s had the 700/800 option I think they were 800 only so it was easier to reflash the 2500s with the reband at dispatch

yes...yes...and yes....the 3000 is not 700/800 but the 2500 is.

I thought Host firmware 7.70 was for rebanding? Or is 7/800 and rebanding two different things? (please forgive my ignorance - we don't have issues such as 7/800 down here in Oz)

The FCC order is designed to “reshuffle the deck” to prevent interference from occurring, so many licensees nationwide will have to move. If you operate in the current NPSPAC band (866-869/821-824 MHz) will be required to move “down” 15 MHz, and every licensee in the first 150 channels of the General Category Pool (851-853.9875/806-808.9875 MHz) will move “up” to the “middle” bands (854.0125-861.9875/809.0125-816.9875 MHz) to clear the way for public safety licensees. Licensees in the “middle” bands can stay where they are. The 700/800 band plan opened up new allocations in the 700 MHz range as a result of the above interference.

Unfortunately because of the design of the XT3Ks VCO, it cannot do 700 MHz but it is 800 MHz rebanding capable.

I field retro'ed a bunch of 2500s to encryption. The keyboard circuit board needs to be changed to a new one which has the encryption surface mounted on the board. The spring clips holding in the keyboard module are a :o to get back in.
