Strange ASTRO ID's seen

Post by Astrogoth »

"Famous" "Bigboy" "Wonder"

Local TAC channel using ASTRO digital mode. First the usual numeric ID shows then about a second later one of these words pops up. They could be mobiles or portables doing it. If the portables can do it I want my callsign!

Look for the talkgroup alias text field in your CPS ASTRO TALKGROUP LIST PULL DOWN MENU.

Sounds like he's in the LA area and listening to LAPD... Some of the officers in that agency are smarter than you'd think.

I thought that at first. Then I remembered my codeplug's home made not a copy of someone elses. The alias table's blank so I shouldn't see that. Also the Soft ID feature won't let me input words. Latest firm and CPS.

Thanks

Astrogoth, the Soft ID is coming from the transmitting radio, not yours. You are thinking of ID aliasing. All you need to have to see a persons soft id is the digital id display option.

What does the radio have to have feature wise to allow this to be used? It is grayed out on my CPS. Any help is welcomed!

Thanx

The radio can do it. It just means whoever bought the radio didn't pay for the feature. It is an extra, not standard.

Well Thanks. ... . . That was my question. What option needs to be in the Flash to get that feature?

When you buy a radio with Soft ID capability always check what's been programmed
into it before you transmit. A local friend of mine delights in putting "funny" words
into codeplugs (you know who you are!).

Also, when dining out, don't leave your FPP XTS on the table when you excuse yourself,
lest you later find strange words have been "installed" on your radio.
