The ASTRO Spectra + was an interm radio before the XTL5000 was ready for 9600 trunking. It programs with ASTRO25 software just like the XTL. There were upgrade kits for ASTRO Spectras to Plus models.

is the 9600 trunking the only difference? or is the plus radio better or worse in other ways?

Is the AS+ a 4MEG controller or 8MEG controller?

I want to say you're right. And I know they use their own proprietary firmware, it doesn't share firmware with the XTL line.

you are right, in the firmware folder it has an ASP file in it. i believe the host is stuck at like version 9 but the dsp goes on to 15. i have an astro spectra plus here i going to upgrade in a few minutes. ill let you guys know

***EDIT***

the firmware version is host 9.00.28 and dsp 15.00.05. as far as i know it is the latest for the astro spectra plus.

That would confirm that it's a 4MEG radio.

Like the XTS2500, they make the Astro Spectra PLUS in 8MB versions too. I haven't seen it in person, but it is available from Motorola.
