R2600C upgrade?

Post by ke2d »

Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade an R2600CHS, which has the standard tracking generator, to the "enhanced spectrum analyzer" or "programmable test setups" options?

What's involved - hardware, or new firmware, or both?

Also, has anyone been able to upgrade the firmware in a 2600C themselves? Is it via serial port, or an eprom swap, etc???

Thanks
Eric

Most R2600 options were available for retrofit into existing units. The usual procedure is for you to place an order, then G.D. ships the upgrade to the depot, the depot calls you, you send in the unit, they upgrade it and return it to you.

The old price list showed:

Retrofit installation, test, and calibration: REX4309A @ $600.00
High performance spectrum analyzer with markers: REX4214a @ $595.00
Programmable test setups: REX4341A @ $395.00

If you go to the General Dynamics web site you will find contact information for support on these units. They can get you current pricing and procedures. The upgrade is a sort of 'Flash' process and comes on a floppy disk but requires an old computer. They may let you do the upgrade but having the depot do it includes a complete instrument calibration so it makes sense - especially if the unit is being used in a commercial setting.

You might also be able to get a firmware upgrade included at the same time. Newer firmware allows averaging the expanded bargraph displays for easier alignment of Motorola Astro radios.

What radios do you own?: What's a radio?

When I worked at the depot, it was standard procedure to put in the "latest & greatest" firmware upgrade provided a hardware change was not required.
