XTS5000 Firmware Upgrades

Post by MTS2000 »

Hi there,

Searched throught the forums but couldn't really find what I was looking for. Anyway what components are necessary to upgrade the Firmware on an XTS5000? Does it take a SmartRib or just the USB programming cable and the Firmware updater from MOL?

Thanks

No SmartRIB is needed, but a flashkey and flash cable is needed. You might be able to use an aftermarket cable, hope it doesn't brick your radio.

OEM serial or usb cable, Astro25 portable CPS (CPS version should really correspond to the firmware version you upgrading to), I button Refresh key and valid firmware (CVN) file.

Will a Jedi series cable work with 5000's and 2500's? They work with my 3000 so was just curious of the pinouts were different.

Depends on the system package of the radio. It's not orderable through MOL, rather it goes through the APB process

And how much do Flashkey's cost? Or there again does it depend on the System Package?

A single refresh on a key is around $75.00. That refresh can be used on Jedi, MCS, XTS, and XTL and is not package or model dependent.
What is model specific is the CVN file.

Now how about for subsequent Firmware releases does that mean another $75 even though all I want to do is update the Firmware on both of my 5000's.

Yes, it does. And it's $75 per charge, each radio will consume one charge on the flashkey, so for 2 radios you're looking at $150
