5K XTVA - Unit Not Powering Up

Post by stevez494 »

Yesterday my XTVA stopped powering up. No audio in the external speaker; not charging; no lights going on.

It is confirmed that there is power at the power cable coming into the unit.

I am a end user with low to moderate electronics knowledge, so before I begin tearing into this, I am wondering if there might be a common cause for this situation.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The XTVA NTN8560 Holder Unit power cord is a 4 pin cord, see below.
The Red and Yellow wires have Fuse holders as supplied from Motorola.
Pin 1 = A+ - Red
Pin 2 = Ground - Black
Pin 3 = Ignition - Yellow
Pin 4 = LED Dimmer - usually not populated in molex connector

Try checking yellow wire fuse and if blown replace it.

Thank you for the reply.

Fuses are good. I have power coming out of the power cord.

I was wondering if there might be internal fuses or a common problem with the XTVA not powering up.

I guess I'll get in there and start searching around.

Thanks again!

I'm in the same boat... mine died yesterday morning for no apparent reason. I popped my XTS5000 into it and it briefly powered up, then dead.

I'm almost wondering if it has something to do with the cold weather?

Sorry but i have never found a service manual doc for this xtva holder and i have
been inside of one for the same reason but we simply used another from a new box
to replace one that failed in the field as the detectives could not wait for these to go
back to moto and then come back. It was a real PITA to take apart and even worse
trying to put it back together after i found no noticable problem.

I'm also in the same boat... but digging around in DAYS worth of forums I suspect it may be related to the type of battery I'm using even though it was working before. I'm also using the HHC display mic that did confirm the radio was in the unit but that's it. I did try using a spare XTS3000 non-display radio in the same XTVA & aside from the expected "keyfail" message in the display everything worked fine. Apparently the XTVA is way more sensitive to the type of battery on the radio than I knew or even suspected so there's where I'm at with it now.

Not sure if you ever resolved this issue or not but it appears you had the exact same symptoms I had with mine. I have a Version F XTVA- I fould out that the XTVA is indeed very critical of the specific type of battery on the radio. After swapping several around I came across a list of acceptable batteries to use in the XTVA. I went thru my batteries & found that I did have one (apparently I had swapped the battery around before & forgot) so I put the correct one on the radio & docked it- like it never happened!
Hope this helps-

Care to share the list of acceptable batteries? Hopefully it can put the issue to rest for us and anyone in the future having the same problem...
