XTL1500 FL 01-90

Post by M7100 »

Greetings everyone, I'm More familiar with Harris equipment, so, Thanks in advance for any help here, This is my first post and I have spent some time trying to find some information in this and have limited success. I don't have any Motorola schematics which would be great by the way... Anyway to the point, I have a XTL1500 from my local volunteer fire department. The display flashes the FL 01-90 Then says Maintenance mode Remote device. From what I've seen that code means that the there is no communication between the head and the pack. Its in dash mount configuration, I have replaced the head with a known good one as well as the ribbon cable with no improvement. I did note a surface mount fuse near the connector for the flex cable There is 12 volts on both sides of the fuse. I am unable to communicate with it with cps however that's to be expected i guess since i don't have the cable that plugs into the back of the radio, my cable plugs in to the head. So, anyway, I'm suspecting some sort of hardware issue.....any thoughts? Again, thanks thanks for the help.

Off to the Depot is your best and likely only course of action.
Schrodinger's Radio: It is simultaneously too loud and too quiet, but you will never know which until someone transmits.

A Motorola shop MAY be able to fix that. There is a head sync tool (software) available on MOL. I have used it with varied success.

There are several methods to recover these radios you can try before you ship it to Mexirola.

Get a serial rear programming cable and see if you can write a saved codeplug (for THAT radio with correct SN) into it. Try at least a dozen times. Try putting the radio in manual bootloader mode and try an update FW file that is the exact revision that is in the radio. There are several other methods to try also. This is not for the faint of heart. If your department has the budget and APXs are not on the horizon, shipping it sooner rather than later is get you a serviceable radio back with new boards and current firmware.

Find a used M5 control head and swap it out. Much cheaper than depot.

or

1500's are getting REALLY cheap. Find a replacement, you can buy 3 of them for the price of a depot trip.

Kilgore: Smell that? You smell that?
Lance: What?
Kilgore: Napalm, son. Nothing in the world smells like that.
Kilgore: I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...
