APX 7500 Ignition Sense Current Specs

Post by fineshot1 »

I have a need to know the current draw ignition sense specs and can't seem to find
them in the APX Spec Sheet or using google. This model has a 03 control head and
is a UHF2/700 if it makes any difference.

If anyone can shed some light on this
i would appreciate it, TIA........Dan

bump - I realize this must be a short burst of very small amount of current
and am hoping someone out in radio land knows.

I'm curious, why do you need this info? I don't think I've ever seen a spec for this. Lacking any knowledge of what you're trying to do, my best suggestion is to throw an ammeter inline with the ignition sense line.

It is my understanding that the load presented by the APX ignition sense line is so close to zero as to be difficult to distinguish - the power for the control head is drawn from the battery line, ignition sense is just that, sense.

I'm going out on a limb and saying "less than the 4A fuse provided with the ignition sense cable"...
"TDMA = digital and same great taste, half the bits"

The need to know = I was going to tapp into someone else's ignition tap and they were concerned about it even though i
was certain it would cause no problem but i just wanted to document it to prove it to them. Yes the MCS2K line has
always used a 3A fuse and the APX7500 came with a 4A fuse. In the one i have there is no control head ignition sense
cable since this is an 03(HHCH) control head. For this the ignition sense is routed to the transceiver via the accessory
extender cable.

Personally I wouldn't hesitate to tap into someone else's ignition sense lead. But I'm sorry, I don't have any specs for that current draw, or even know where I could get them, since it's not in the literature and I've never seen it on Batlabs

The current draw is negligible. The radio is just looking for 12V.

Yes - i know that but had to try and document this for someone else's sake and had no control
of the requirements imposed on another. That should be self evident from what i have posted
above. Installation is done and over with what i knew was no problem.

APX6500 Ignition Sense=1.22 mA, should be close or the same as a APX7500.
