Issues with Motorola PM1500 install

Post by K8COP »

2004 Ford Police package

Installed new Motorola PM1500 high-power mobile radio in vehicle. Has issues with the radio turning on and off as you are driving down the road. The unit sometimes will display that the radio is in the maintence mode. We have subed out every part of the radio with a known working unit. Same results. Problem with the electrical system? In checking that no problems found.

Anyone else had this issue??

The car had a Motorola Spectra high-power in it with no problems....

Sounds exactly like some of the problems we had with some XTL2500 radios and the fix
was a firmware refresh. There is a FSB(or whatever they call it) for the XTL2500 and
XTL5000 radios on these exact symptoms but i don't know if it extends to the PM1500.

Do you know what the FSB number is? We have a PM1500 we have been dealing with that has this issue.

Thanks,

Depending on the age of the radio, there was another firmware issue the the early PM1500 radios had. This effected the scan. If I remember the details, the radio would scan fine until the radio heard the first signal. It would then open up on the tone squelch. But after the squelch closed, it would not open again. The only way you could hear a transmission was to go to carrier squelch, or power cycle the radio. Then it would go to the first transmission of a CTCSS signal, listen to it and then fail after the receiver closed the squelch.

There was a firmware upgrade for this problem, but can't recall what it was. It was using the M5 control head.

Yes - its FSB10530A but it does not state its for the PM1500, just the XTL2500 & 5000
yet its the exact same symptoms.

You might want to check out FSB10044.

I had the problem back in 2007 with my PM1500.

Also check and see if it's power setting is in "SOFT OFF" If, being an older car, it has a low voltage issue, the SOFT OFF will sense it and shut down.
