Low Band Two Way Radio

Hello I am getting ready to purchase a low band portable and mobile two way radio. Does ant one have any ideas on good radios?? The make really dosn't matter.

I forgot to say: I will be using the mobile in my POV and the portable will replace my Minitor so it would be nice if the radios do alerting. Agian the make really dosn't matter i am just looking for reliable radios.

Motorola's decent choices would be:
Mobile: Maxtrac (and Radius variants), Maratrac
Portable: MT1000, P200 (same radio one's gray, one's black)

Ah, The MT1000 and P200 are not the same radio. They look similar.

The HT600 and the P200 are the radios you must be thinking of. The HT600, IMHO, looks like :o were as the P200 is black.

Mobiles: Maxtrac, Radius, CDM, Maratrac
If you can find an old Mitrek laying around that's on the correct frequencies, you can usually get it for free since no departments want them anymore. This is probably Motorola's best lowband mobile.

Portables: MT1000, P200, HT600, HT750/HT1250
The MT1000 and P200 are the best on lowband.

Don't overlook the Kenwood TK630 and TK690 mobiles and the TK190 portables either! They work every bit as well as "M"'s radios.
The TK190 clearly outperforms the HT750 and HT1250 on the 33 MHz band.

Check again men, he's asking about LOW band and while the
VHF and UHF P200's are HT600's
The LowBand P200 is a 6 ch.MT1000 (and both scan)
(no lowband HT600's)

I prefer the MT-1000 for portable and the Syntor X9000 for a mobile. The MT-1000 is a very durable radio and has a descent amount of options including user scan and QCII. They are pretty easy to come-by on e-bay as well. Syntor X9000 is also a great radio and is very user friendly. We are in the process of purchasing an 800,000 platform ladder and the Syntor is one of the very few things being moved from the old truck to the new one.

Check out the Maratrac's as well, 2 splits in low band as I recall.

i like the maratrak my self. if you can find one of the "newer" models with the squelch nobe makes it real nice for low band. also you get a full 100watts

and in some vehicle like trucks they are easyer to install

Don't forget the good ol' Syntor X for a low band mobile

. Up to 32 modes, 100 watts, and cheap these days. Notice no one else mentioned this one, so guess I've got some r e a l l y old stuff

You might also want to check into a GE Delta S for a mobile. They are a narrow frequency spread radio, so you won't be able to have a multi frequency spread of more than about 2 Mhz.

They can be located for under $100 or so. Have a number of different control heads to choose from. Kind of depends on how many channels you want and if you need scan or not. They come in 2 models, 40 watt and 110 watt transmitter power output.

Channel info is controlled by an EEPROM. Most people use the old "suitcase programmer" to set up the channel info in the radio.
