ASTRO Spectra to ASTRO Spetra plus upgrade ???

Post by wd9cms »

I have a few questions about the Motorola ASTRO Spectra plus upgrade kits:

Has anyone upgraded a ASTRO Spectra to a ASTRO Spectra plus????
After the upgrade what features are enabled or do you have to flash all options again?
Is it difficult to perform the upgrade with the Motorola upgrade Kit?
Will any ASTRO Spectra upgrade or does it need to have certain firmware?
Is the upgrade a new controller and vocoder board?

Thanks for your help!!!!

I don't know if you know or not, but basically the Plus upgrade only gives you full Astro-25 operation, where as the Astro Spectra does not. The Plus is/was just an interim radio until the XTL5000 was released. As r0f stated, you will no longer be able monitor a trunked system without it trying to affliate (which is a no-no unless you are an authorized user).

Other than that, you don't gain anything conventionally. Also, you will need to purchase the Astro Spectra Plus CPS as it will no longer read with Astro RSS/CPS. Upgrade kit was around $1000 I think at last report.
Lowband radio. The original and non-complicated wide area interoperable communications system
