Question about cloning from Lab??

O.K., lets say I have an Astro 3 programmed with version 8.05 RSS and I want to be able to use the older version 3 Labtool to read and write it. Can I do a clone from lab using a codeplug with the same model number and still retain the radios current flash code info???

Unless you have a VSELP unit, it won't work. The 'available' Astro LAB version 3.04 does not recognize IMBE, it's too early. Even using the 'read/write with no pack/unpack' will cause an IMBE radio to show 'error 01/90' on the radio. If you wish to force a codeplug into an IMBE radio, you need to use MTSX LAB 3.02.00 (weird, I know). Otherwise, you're stuck with regular RSS/CPS.

Thanks Todd, you saved me some headaches! I just hate the idea of trying to hex edit CPS 2.00 for out of band stuff. that's the last CPS it was programmed with so I guess that's what I am forced to do.

If you can get your hands on RSS 9.05, it'll read/write radios which were programmed with CPS versions right up to, but not including, 3.0

Actually, I think 9.03 will read/write CPS 2.0 I believe.

I don't mind using CPS 2.00.00 , my question Todd is can the CPS be edited to allow out of band stuff like the early versions of CPS?

I don't know, never tried it. Hopefully it's similar to what's on Batlabs, or perhaps someone else here can give you some tips.

Another problem is, you're going to trash all the softpot values. They'll be cloned from the existing file to the new radio. That can result in a radio that's hardly better than a doorstop, and needs a LOT of realigning.

Yes, it's possible, radio type depending, but it's certainly not something I'd recommend doing for this reason.

Been there, done that, didn't much care for the results. Won't do that again.

Thanks for the info, I figured it was not worth trying so I did not.
I just edited the dos RSS for out of band, then decided to swap it for an XTS3000, I think I like the XTS more.

Some people do. Personally, I prefer the Astro Saber over the XTS ergonomics, several times over.

I really do need to get myself another one...
