Audio using surv. kit - XTS3500

Post by alex »

I have a VHF 3500 - I recently aquired one of the survalence kits from a friend of mine.

The audio on it is nice if your in a quiet room, but for the most part, it's rather quiet if your in a noisy setting. The volume seems to max out at a certain point, I'm not sure at this point what that is, or where it is set in the software.

Anyone have any ideas? This is a simple OTTO kit (i think, it was free, what more can I ask for) using one of the external adapters for the XTS.

I haven't tried it on either of my 3000's to see if they work any different.

Suggestions?

I'll double check it and see, but it is a new earpiece.

A can of pressurized air (like the kind used to clean computer keyboards) works will for cleaning the tube and earplug out. Also if you have a compresser, a dusting adapter will work to clean those out.

I've never seen one that came new with the tube blocked, but who knows. Also take a look at were the tube hooks into the speaker and make sure that nothing is inside that.

I seem to have the same problem with my surveillance kit on my XTS. At first I thought it was because of the molded, open-ear, earpiece I was using, so I switched to the plug type, but the results remain quiet.
When I plug the same kit into an MTS2000, it is deafening loud!

I remember the CPS for the HT1250 has a menu item for microphone gain (emergency, radio mounted and accessory mics), wonder if that also has a volume setting for audio...
