Is there an Australian version of the Motorola HT1550·XLS ?
Any information on this would be very much appreciated.

Yep. It's ridiculously expensive down our way, though. I was quoted around $2000 for a UHF 450-512 MHz unit. I gave it a miss and got an Icom instead.
What sort of stuff would you want one for?

I use a 256-channel Icom IC-F40GT on about 200 conventional UHF channels (UHF CB, police RX, private channel etc), and I've been pretty happy with it. It gets treated pretty roughly, and it still goes great.
/\/\'s GP339 supports 255 conventional channels, and it's substantially cheaper but I'm not sure about the exact price. Unless your Electronics Techs have the CPS or you know someone who does, changing channels frequently will get pretty expensive as /\/\ won't sell you the software.

A little off topic - a person I used to work with is currently serving in the Gulf - although I do not know the vessel.8443833 wrote:I want one to use in my job because i am an electronic warafe linguist with the royal australian navy (RAN) and i need around 140 conventional channels that i use on base.

Is there a method of sending an email to an individual sailor just to wish them well?

I think (not sure) you can send a message to [email protected]tomsdad wrote: A little off topic - a person I used to work with is currently serving in the Gulf - although I do not know the vessel.
