XTS Ruggedized housing vs. Non-Ruggedized

Post by mtr12222 »

Are there any distinguishing marks other than the label on a ruggedized XTS housing? What exactly are the differences between the two? Ie. The gasket around the radio is thicker, speaker grill sealed, etc.

From… http://www.motorola.com/cgiss/portables/xts3000.shtml
· What does a XTS 3000R provide that the standard version does not?
o Robustness- The XTS 3000R can withstand low pressure, dust, humidity, shock, rain, salt, fog, solar radiation, temperature shock, vibration, high and low temperatures - for operation and storage.
o Submersibility- The XTS 3000R can withstand up to four hours under six feet of water - fresh or salt.
o More Visibility- The Public Safety Yellow makes it easier for police officers, manufacturing and utility workers, and other commercial and industrial operations to locate their radios.
o Two-way "light"- Most radios are made rugged by bulking up, but the XTS 3000R is extra rugged without the extra bulk.

Also be advised…

Larger housing. Yellow housing ONLY available in ruggedized version.

The batteries for the ruggedized models are different.

Um I have yellow ruggedized housings on the 3000 and 5000 and they take the same batteries as the non-ruggedized housing.

The old Saber-R radios have different batteries.
