Why is it that MODAT is still an option? Are there any big customers that still use it? Does LAPD perhaps? At least as it was explained to me MODAT was supposed to be packaged with VSLEP only.

I dont see why they would carry something like MODAT on their highest tier radios and only have something like QCII encode on lower tier models.

Also, does FPP require a special battery like the HT1550 or does it simply need to be present in the flashcode.

Q52 is a Fed Gov't only option, you have no need to ever worry about obtaining it.

The are actually quite a few options that will get your radio confiscated if you send it to the factory with said options and no documentation to as who you are, where you work or have Fed. cred's.

I know of a board member who is still trying to get his 5000 back from over a year ago, was sent in for a update, and it is still there. I don't feel that they can/should do that, if it is such an issue, remove the offending options and send the equipment back, typical big corporate B.S.

Rant mode off........

Lance: What?
Kilgore: Napalm, son. Nothing in the world smells like that.
Kilgore: I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...

Even though MODAT is in the list it is NOT supported on current XTS5000 firmware (rev 5.00 or older).

And FPP does not require a special battery, it just needs the proper level of firmware plus the proper flashcode. FPP is not compatible with the trunking option, conventional only.
