I own an Icom IC-Z1A and the manual says it's capable of crossband repeater. Does this mean that it can be used like a mini-repeater and re-transmit RX audio onto another band? I can only get it to do that when i press the PTT manually, not automaticaly like a true repeater. Thanks.

I'm not familiar with that particular radio, but the Icom dual band HT's that I have owned have all been capable of crossband repeat. There is a special key sequence to put it into repeater mode, and it will then repeat anything from band A -> band B and vice versa.
