SmartZONE - deactivating on a MTX8000

Post by b7spectra »

I've got a B7 MTX8000 that the Smartnet was enabled. This radio now starts giving me the "boops" every so often and is driving me bonkers! Any idea on how to "disable" the smartnet?

Thanks

I'm not sure what "boops" you're talking about. When do they occur? The only way to disable the "Smartnet" is to make the radio conventional only, so I think you might mean something else.

It just goes "boop, boop, pause, boop, boop" like that about every 2 minutes or so. Like the sound you get when you try to key up the radio and are unable to hit the site. I know it's like telling a mechanic what sounds the car makes when they take it in. Make any sense?

Just change your wide area option in the System menu to AMSS or disabled. That will disable Smartzone.

Unless you got a radio with a properly hacked controller or Motorola threw an MTS controller in the radio and down graded it , your B7 will not do Smartzone .

I don't know of any feature of SmartZone which could cause those tones. It sounds like a low battery or out-of-area tone.

And just as Metro121 said, no stock MTX will do SZ. AMSS, yes, or in some rare cases, SmartNet also.

I think I know what he's talking about.

Rub your finger along the option connector on the right top side of the radio, you'll find that the "boops" come back. You might have to squeeze a bit. I think it's something with that option connector - I've seen a few different radios that have done that, so I try and keep the connectors cover over it, and I don't have the problem.

See if that's the case -- works better outside on a hot day... Prob. sweat is causing a connection in the contacts the radio doesn't like.

 THAT WAS IT! I put an microphone on it and it stopped! Strange how those odd things work!

Thanks to all who helped me!
