Federal Signal Smart Siren? New Compact Model?

Post by code3media »

Any Federal Signal Reps out there? Saw this baby installed in an LAPD Detectives car yesterday, but can't seem to find it in the FedSig catalog. Looks like a mini version of the SS, but with less buttons (6). Sure would be nice if Federal Signal could come up with a product similar to the Touch Tek VI that just controls a relay box.

Nice. I could use that.

I like the water bottle holder shoved under the airbag cover... :o

Well, nothing gives away your position doing surveillance more than a pile of cigarrette butts on the pavement so they have to make do....

That looks like it is a modern 80K controller. Maybe FedSig finally decided to update the control panels.

Looking at Federal Signal's documentation online I found this:
http://www.fedsig.com/products/docs/install/2562173.pdf

Looks like they made them special for LAPD.

For what it's worth, I cut the buttons on one of these when I was finishing a really nice install. No problem I thought, I'll just call FedSig and order a new button pad rubber thingy. No Sir! They say that part is not available, and I have to order the whole control head, for $200 and change. $(*@#! I carefully glued the damage I had done and you'd hardly even know. But it chapped my hide.

So now all somebody's gotta do is call Federal and see if it can be ordered by non-LAPD.

It's the prototype controller for FS's newest lightbar in conjunction with the existing Smart Siren. It's in evaluation stages and that's all I can say except that should it go into production, it would be a significant improvement to existing lightbars.

Speaking of the cup holders.
Are they anything special or do they just hook behind/onto the center trim?

The Cup holders simply slide behind the moulding on the crown vic. You can find those cup holders at any auto parts store. I found one here... http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDeta ... mber=05561

As for the Hummer above, yes, the pics were taken at the Heroes Airshow at Hansen Dam, Lake View Terrace, CA.
