I have a HT1250 sitting on my desk that I am trying to program. I have programmed it twice before, in the past 24 hours. The radio itself is working fine, it powers up, receieves and transmits.
However, i can't read from it, nor can I write a new codeplug to it. When I try, it says that it can't access the current codeplug to see wether or not the CPS can write to it.
Anyone know how to solve this problem?

Your problem could be anywhere.....
It would be ideal to describe your programming paltform,
style of Rib, cables ect....
Manytimes it can be a Rib Box , cable, power supply
issue or anything between the radio and computer.
One thing for sure, you DO NOT want to corrupt the
Code Plug in these later model radios as it can be
expensive to fix.

I'm using a laptop to program the radio. Both radio and laptop are at full battery capacity, with the laptop plugged into AC also. Using CPS R4**-AA and RIBless cable RKN4075A, genuine motorola parts.
Nothing seems wrong with the radio now, but how could i know if the codeplug is corrupted? The radio just doesn't work?

To add to the above, the Laptop is running Win 98 as the OS.
Maybe your using too old a version of the software to program the radio. The software you are using is (at least) 2 versions behind what's current - R06.01.00. I suggest upgrading to this as well.
What kind of computer - processor, ram, that kinda stuff are you using? That is a major contributor - though usually not as key a role as when you use the older dos RSS.
Signs of a corrupt codeplug can be things that you program that don't work, or a function that isn't working to specs.
Monty should write back with a few more things to try, but I would consider reinstalling the software and purchasing the most up to date version when working on your radios. [edit - he beat me to this post!]

I'll give it a shot. The computer is a 266Mhz with 96MB RAM, loaded with NOTHING except the CPS software (I dedicated the machine to Programming)
I'll try reinstalling the software. What's with the version of the codeplug that can be found if you look it up on radio information. The latest says 1.03, but the original says 1.11. Is that a problem?

You may also want to check / reinstall your serial port drivers. Corrupted serial port drivers will cause exactly the error that you are reporting.
Using a version of CPS that is too old will generally result in block type errors (or something to that effect) while trying to read the radio, but CPS will usually at least admit to seeing the radio.
RIB / Cable problems will typically generate an "Unable to open port" error message.
Have you tried to read any other radios using the same port and / or tried reading the radio on a different machine? (Be careful about writing to it- You may force a software upgrade on yourself
)
So far, this sounds more like a programming platform issue than a codeplug issue, but these are touchy radios, and as Monty points out, a real pain to restore.....
