Confused on a specific flashcode...

Post by N4DES »

What the heck is it? It came out of one of 1 Adam 12's UHF Saber portables.
Is it IMBE, VSELP or not digital capable at all?

840101-8f0000-4

H15/H44 H15 is Astro Data / H44 is VRM500 for MCS2000 only
H868/W969 Multikey Operation
H39 Selective Radio Inhibit
H35/G48 Conventional Operation
H29 Single key Software Encryption Option
Q354 OTACS (Over The Air Channel Steering)
Q353 OTACR (Over The Air Channel Reassignment)
Q352 Soft ID
Q351 MODAT Operation

Thanks

I'm guessing analog or VSELP. No 'ASTRO Ready' or IMBE, though software crypto points to VSELP. What's the HOST/DSP?

The flashcode starts with an even # which indicates either analog only or vselp. It does not decode to astro ready so one would assume its vselp. In order to tell for sure you should get the host/dsp version. This would tell you for sure, that is if its unhacked.

Analog. No VSELP support, even.

It would appear to me that it was a VSELP radio that someone upgraded a few years back, and gave it an analog-only DSP. All newer analog astro radios I've ever seen have "Astro Ready (analog only), not "conventional operation", which I've only seen on VSELP radios, since it eludes to analog AND digital conventional operation.

The "Conventional Operation" system package byte isn't a reliable indicator by itself as to whether the radio will do analog only, VSELP, or IMBE. However, I agree with the assessment that this radio used to have a VSELP DSP and has since been force-upgraded to have an analog only DSP.

FYI, that's the old pre-IMBE LAPD flash. And yeah, seconding what everyone else has said, VSELP doesn't need to be specifically enabled in the flashcode for a radio to have it. If the firmware is older than HOST05.xx/DSPN06.xx and the DSP letter revision isn't "A", the radio will do VSELP. I had a radio once that was flashed for analog-only (000001-002000-5) but still had VSELP-capable firmware.
