Help.. Astro Saber bricked after programming.
I use a genuine Motorola RIB and cables, and version R05.02 CPS.
I modified my codeplug, added some channels, went to write the radio, the CPS said it was successful,
and the radio stays in self-test mode all the time and won't power off via the volume control now. But it
will power ON via the volume control if it's in the off position when a battery is connected.
This setup hasn't changed since the last time I programmed this radio.
Got any ideas?

Update...oddly enough, I can READ the radio even in this state. Or reprogram it. I just can't USE it.
I edited the codeplug down to the bare minimum. Still no success.

Don't know yet. Tried a cheap aftermarket RIB and got a different problem. Fail 01/82. And the radio can now
be turned off.
I do think my PC to RIB cable is questionable. I'll make another one. It's easy enough.

Hmmm I have the same issue after programming with CPS, any ideas? 1/82 here too...
Re: Help.. Astro Saber bricked after programming.
I had a similar problem with a MTS2000 with a controller Ver 1.xx. I read/wrote with CPS 2.02 came back successful write but, not according to the radio, Fail 01/82. I thought I had bricked the radio but, luckily I had it's old codeplug in RSS ver 6.04 I used the clone option and everything was OK. It still won't write correctly with CPS 2.02. Just use Astro RSS and clone its codeplug, if you have a copy saved in Astro RSS, back into it and it should work fine.

Load up an older pre 5.02 CP and CPS for the radio (if you have one...RSS if possible) and drop it back into the radio. That generally does the trick.

Re: Help.. Astro Saber bricked after programming.
I removed the encryption module (DES) and that alone restored the radio to normal operation.
So what's up with encryption modules?? Are there known issues with older versions and newer firmware and CPS or something?
I prefer to retain the capability to use encryption, if possible.

Off hand, I remember a post here about older EMC's and newer firmware, but I believe it was geared more towards CKR and the advanced features. I have some of the common .6 EMC's and work just fine with recent firmware astro spectra's and sabers. I don't use CKR or the such, but they are multikey radios. No problems.
