FSB NUMBER: FSB10051

APC CODE: 402, 432, 466, 511, 355

DATE: February 2007

EXPIRES: 31-Dec-2007

BULLETIN TYPE: Warranty Service

SUBJECT: Up Issue of SRN1394D – Radios exhibit missing pixel rows or columns of an alphanumeric message or
other normal displays.

MODELS AFFECTED:
MTS2000, MT2000, HT1000, JT1000 and MTX8000/9000 radios built from January 1999 through March 2004. These
are identified by serial numbers xxxAZAxxxx through xxxAEFxxxx. LCD boards manufactured during this time period
may exhibit this issue. The manufacture date code of the LCD board is printed on the board itself and would be 00010
through 04136.
NOTE: Any radios not exhibiting missing pixel rows or columns, or those that are cracked or have been abused are
not covered by this FSB.

IDENTIFICATION OF ISSUE:
1. In order to verify a failure due to this manufacturing issue:
a) If the front cover has never been replaced then the radio serial number date code will be xxxAZAxxxx through
xxxAEFxxxx.
b) There should not be any cracks or signs of abuse on the front cover.
c) A good display should look like the one in sample Picture 1, and a defective display should look like the on in
sample Picture 2.
Picture 1: Examples of a GOOD display
Picture 2: Example of a BAD display that has missing pixel rows and columns
2. For radios exhibiting the condition above with a serial number outside of the listed range will require verification
through the display date code. These radios could have had their covers replaced with a suspect front cover in the
field or at one of the Radio Support Centers (RSC). The method to identify an affected display would be by looking at
the supplier date code label located just under the front cover flex. Our supplier has 3 facilities where the LCD boards
were manufactured. The date code of the LCD board is explained below. Please note they are different ways of
reading the date code between the facilities.
