Anyone found/made a smaller mic for the Spectra

Post by Mraudio »

I am tight on space in the vehicle as it is and having 2 spectras makes it more difficult to have the big mics. Has anyone found something or made something smaller that will work? Never contemplated this until now....ideas would be helpful.
Thanks a bunch!

I would just wire in a HMN1056 to the rear port.

Are you refering to the VIP on the controll head or the Radio itself? Mine are remoted FWIW
I didnt think you could run mic function from the VIP plug

The radio itself.

If you're handy with crimping, you can also hock the cables from your Spectra mics, crimp 6-pin RJ11 modular plugs on them, and use the small Maxtrac palm mics. Match the wiring color-for-color with the Maxtrac cable.

Something else I've done is take the black Maxtrac mics with hard-wired cable and swap them over to Spectra cables. Again, just match the wiring color-for-color.

I have been asked this same questions by a lot of customers, you would think that Moto would have offered a smaller mic with that style of connector.

I like the black GM300 style mic. Just remove the original cord and put a Spectra mic cable on it. They work really well on the Spectra.
