cdm1250 increase frequency amount
Hi there,
I have a 64 frequency VHF cdm 1250 and i was wondering if there was a way to hack it to so it would allow me to add more frequencies, say maybe 128 or more?
i hear motorola has locked them down pretty well, just wondering if anyone has tried and been successful or whatnot
thanks.
Jason

Re: cdm1250 increase frequency amount
If you have a conventional CDM(not an LS or LS+) the radio is capable of 8 zones of 16 frequencies per zone or 128 frequencies total. All you have to do is create additional zones in the CPS and populate them with the personalities you wish.

Re: cdm1250 increase frequency amount
Thank you, escomm....I was thinking of the 1550 which does indeed support 128 personalities. The CDM1250 supports only 64.
Re: cdm1250 increase frequency amount
I think you can convert CDM1250 into CDM1550 by program CDM1550 codeplug with Waris Labtool.
After that you need to do hardware modification of ControlHead - some jumpers.
I never do that, so maybe i'm wrong.

Re: cdm1250 increase frequency amount
Im sure this cant be discussed but ill ask anyways, how would I go about doing that? I dont have any CDM experience, this is my first, hoping itll replace my spectra if I can get it to accept 128 channels.Hightower wrote:Find in the CPS where it limits you to 64 channels and change it to 128. Problem solved without hacking up the radio and possable bricking it with those stupid unofficial lab tools.

Re: cdm1250 increase frequency amount
Ive looked around in all the options in the CPS. I didnt come across anything that i could just change the maximum frequencies from 64 to 128. if its just not possible then i guess ill have to deal, but i really need 128, because this is for railroad use and would like to have all 97 AAR channels available.
thanks

Re: cdm1250 increase frequency amount
Are you sure you need all channels? As a short line, can't you limit to just the known channels in the area? You should have a road channel, channels needed for any track that doesn't belong to you, and the yardmaster.

Re: cdm1250 increase frequency amount
Bill, If I know Jason like I think I do, he'll want 90 channels for the railroads in general and the other 38 channels for VHF Ham, etc.

Frank, you have no idea how grateful I was to see 800 trunking come to our area. It meant everybody worked from the same template, and I was no longer spending afternoons creating custom VHF channel and scan lists for every battalion chief. And as soon as he passed on his vehicle, the next guy wanted something different. Oy vey!
Someone needs to hack a FPP for mobiles.

I agree with you about the FPP for mobiles!!
That's why I try to keep all my radios in the same format, provided they can handle it. Like a 128 VHF spectra and a 160 VHF MTS2000 will have zones/channels identical to each other so I don't have to worry about looking at the display every time. Granted I have to remember that the zones are different but the ideal setup of channels is the same.
I'm slightly glad I don't have newer radios, well besides my XTS5000...

Re: cdm1250 increase frequency amount
You could always sell the CDM and get an MCS2000 model 2 or 3 which has more channels and is hackable out of band, unlike the CDM you are pretty much stuck with what you have.
