Doesn't look like you mentioned it, but I'm assuming you're loading a DES key. Correct? If your radio is not multikey capable (ie. singlekey), then it cannot support dual-crypto, even if your module does. Which means it will only use the first algorithm, even though it will successfully load the second algorithm via a KVL. This is because the original intent was to support singlekey-dualcrypto, but they never did complete it. DES-OFB is the second algorithm in your encryption module. Try loading a DVP-XL key and it will work just fine. The only case when a single key radio will work in a "dual-crypto" mode is if you have DES-XL/DES-OFB.
As for the keyload tones, just an FYI. Singlekey radios generate the single 500ms beep, while multikey radios generate the dual tones on a successful keyload.

One thing to remember with a single hardware key setup is that you are loading key number X ( X can be 0 to F) to slot/location number zero in the radio and not to slot/location 1 ( there are also 0 to F keyslot/ locations possible with the 3011DX), which you would think would be the first hardware key location. The radio will let you load any key (0 to F) to any slot /location ( also 0 to f) but if setup for a single key it will only be looking for the key in location zero (0) and nowhere else.
Also make sure you are loading in hardware keys and not a shadow key, noted by the display showing something like key 5X to location Y where the 5 is actually the KVLs display for the letter S for a shadow key and the Y is the location the radio where the key is to be loaded, zero in your case.
I just had a big govt. customer who had the exact same problem as you have and he was using the default KVL setup trying to load key number 1 to location 1 and the radio and KVL both displayed passed but when in encrypted mode it always displayed "Key fail", it just so happens that the KVL defaults key 1 to location 1 unless you tell it to load to another location. He didn't even know that there was a key numbered zero (0) nor a location zero (0) available.

ok that's wierd if you do not get the X to Y in your KVL display when you press the key load button on your T3011DX, where x and y can be and number or letter from 0 to F, then your KVL acts differently than mine does.
Ok lets try this and see if your T3011DX KVL operates the same as mine.
I set my 2 radios up for a single hardware key and then did the following to 2 radios:
I connected the KVL to my XTS3000 and turned the XTS3000 on and it indicates KEYLOADING on the XTS3000s display. The KVL is turned off and I then pressed the side keyload\button on the KVL and it displays "busy" for about a second or two and then it displayed "X to Y" where X is the desired key (0 to F) and Y is the desired location (0 to F). For instance my KVL displayed "1 to 1" and I then pressed the 0 key on the KVL keypad and the KVL display changed to "1 to 0" and I then pressed the side button once more and the radio gave the tone that indicates successful keyloading and the KVL display indicated "passed". I then tried encryption and it worked. Does your KVL operate the same or not ? If not then that is wierd.

OK Shaun
I now see your problem about having dual algorithms in your radio as I read the other post more clearly after some more coffee had flowed thru my veins.
The reason it worked for me is that all of my radios are either DVP/xl or DES/xl with OFB but not multi algorithm IE mine are not DVP and DES in one but just single algorithm radios so I haven't tried it the way yours was ordered as I don't have a radio like that to test out.
I was able to set my radios as single key only, even though they are all multikey inside, and then I needed to load into location zero to make the radios talk to each other.
Very Interesting, then Moto has really made it impossible to use a multi algorithm radio correctly even if the radio is flashed for it.

mIKE m:
How come yours says:
kg1: des-ofb
kg2: des-xl
and mine says
kg1: des-xl
kg2: des-ofb
Any difference that I am not aware of but that Scrotum~old did???
Thanks

When DES-OFB was first released my m, due to the hardware layout DES-OFB had to be the second algorithm. I could go into details, but take my word for it. Since then, they have redesigned the board and are using newer chips and may have overcome the original constraints. Version 3.43 is quite new. Having one before the other will not make a difference if they are DES-XL and DES-OFB.
