XTS5000 VHF button tone issue

Post by 3-SAM-12 »

I have a VHF XTS5000 that has button tone issues. Below are videos of normal and when the radio is acting up. It is not the speaker, we have changed cases and the radio traffic is fine.

RAM proc version by any chance? I've come to find that the older RAM processors don't like the newer firmware, and display that same problem randomly. I have not had the newer BRAVO processor do this yet.

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

Put it in service mode by pressing the lower side button 5 times in a row right after power up.

Yes it has a RAM processor, guaranteed!!

Well known issue to many people except Motorola

Actually spoke with post sales this morning about another BS issue they won't acknowledge and they still say they've never heard of this issue

Complete BS

Saw a radio with this problem at Dayton with R15 DSP. Came back to the table later in the day, had R14 DSP by then and no matter how hard the owner tried they couldn't make the problem reappear...!

Any way to have this fixed? My 5k has a Bravo RAM. The one in question was bought off the board a few weeks ago by a member of my department.

New vocon... or Flat rate... or downgrade DSP... or voodoo magic and make Motorola acknowledge the problem exists...

I have personally seen two radios do this - a UHF R1 XTS 5000 (8MEG/RAM22) and a 7/800MHZ XTS 2500 (4MEG/RAM22).

How freaking annoying.

Sorry we've never heard of that problem and can't duplicate it with our bravo processor radios

I wonder what the f/w version is in the Ram radios that do this. My Ram radio has been sitting on f/w 14 for over a year & has never stuttered. Had it bumped to f/w 15, & all seemed well, but with all the hoopla put it back to 14 to be safe. So to the OP, what version f/w do you have? GARY N4KVE

my 700/800 has a RAM22 CPU, and does this when it was bumped to R15.
Totally random. Totally annoying. I just put up with it.

I am having this happen now and also the radio reboots itself when I press the transmit button. I recently just upgraded to R16 from the ancient R2. I just recently deleted all my old firmware so now I am trying to find something old to reload into the radio to see if it is the firmware!
