in 2002 we used to make good monthly residuals on Nextel plan activations,I believe at one point $6000 per month.Then the Mall kiosks showed up....

Nextel has been dead here for years. Once sprint bought them out, most everyone dropped them. The only guys I ever saw with them in the last 5 years were landscapers and tow truck drivers.

It's a damn shame it's gone. Hopefully this will be a windfall for DMR operators.

wonder whats gonna happen to all the base station stuff. i know they left some enclosure on the property and gave them to the property owners

As for the raw equipment involved in Sprint's iDEN shutdown, the company plans to recycle anything it can't redeploy elsewhere in its network. The approximately 30,000 iDEN sites being dismantled will generate just around 100 million pounds of material and recycled gear.

I'm sure Nextel Mexico will be acquiring a lot of it. They have no plans to shut down their iDEN network.

Does that leave SouthernLINC as the largest remaining iDen service in the United States then?

I actually wouldn't mind picking up a nice, used Motorola R765. I would think that 1 watt on 900 mHz should work okay for close in communications.

Airpeak operates a regional iDEN network in Southern California.
