Radius P-1225 Question

Post by yardbirdjr »

Hello All!

I have a 2 channel Motorola P-1225

I was wanting to see if I could upgrade the radio to 16 channels.

And what it would take to do this

I thought maybe it was like a GP-300 remove the switch stop and program the additional channels didn't work.

Thanks

As I recall the P1225 has a mask-programmed ROM and cannot be upgraded.

Hello:
That is correct the P1225 code plug can not be upgraded like the older GP300 portables.
Pre 1994 GP300 portables can be upgraded to 16ch but a 1995 and newer build of the GP300 portable can not be upgraded as Motorola removed the address lines in the code plug needed to upgrade the GP300 as I was told.

what we did was remove the cpu from the 2 channel radio and replace them with 16 channel cpu from scrap radios

Actually, from early 1994 and later, the 'E' series GP300/P110s could not be upgraded.
And you are correct, the address lines that were in the pre-1994 radios were removed, so you could not initialize them as 16 channel units.

If you had a P110 with an 'E' in the model number, such as the one I have, then you could 'expand' it to 16 channels.
Mine is the first P110 I purchased back in '93.
