bench power supply S-1348D

Post by pphilco »

Hi,

I have a Motorola S1348d bench PSU to repair. I think the regulator chip has failed. I used to have a service manual but can't lay my hands on it.

Does anyone have a copy of the manual they could scan and email for me please?

Much appreciated.

Philip

Philip -

It has been truly ages since I was in one of those supplies; but I'm pretty sure it's based on the LM723 regulator; Try just getting a data sheet for that & comparing your guzzinta's with the data sheet and look for correct guzzouta's. Or just pick up a couple replacement chips & try one.

(FWIW, I had to fix one that had been used to try to 'jump start' a UPS; it was supposed to act as the battery bank because the original bank was flat as a pancake so wouldn't take any charge at all under no circumstances. Yeah, much smoke let out. 'Twas my first foray into DC troubleshooting and feedback circuit, etc. Learned a lot. Forgotten most of it now. :-) )

The regulator chip is not an LM 723, it's an MC1566.

When mine died, the pass transistors shorted out and the current sense resistor opened.

That caused all the power to go through the current meter which immediately blew out as well.

It was too far gone to fix, given that you can get a working one on ebay pretty cheaply these days.

Two S1348's went for $89.99 and $76.00 recently. However, if you want to fix it, there's a manual listed for sale.

Hi Guys, Thanks for all the input. I've managed to locate an original chip from Aliexpress and will fit it shortly and see what happens. It's amazing what you can yet from china...
I see that manual on ebay but don't want to pay the $56 to get it to New Zealand. That's half the value of the whole PSU.
