XE500 Speaker Mic (PMMN4106), Revision B

Post by JeffFireRadio »

Yikes, went to order another one of these and it's listed as a 'B' version already. Seems like they just started shipping this brand new product a few months ago, but it has probably been just short of a year already. Does anyone know what changed or what was wrong with the original 'A' model that precipitated the change? Thanks.

P.S. Did I just use 'precipitated' in a sentence?

I just tried to order some of these to replace current XE RSMs and my shipping date is now January 2018. Do you think there might be bigger issues?

Looking to use them on APX6000XEs. The original XE style RSMs are not lasting 2 years before they fail.

We've had some in order for 4 to 5 months and they keep pushing out the ship date.

Yes, there's a bigger issue.

We just did a bunch of internal testing with the XE500 and not very impressed with the performance.
The ruggedized Commander outperformed it in transmit audio quality, even in a high noise environment, without all the bells and whistles.

Which mic did you select instead of the XE500? (Model?)

Bump. Anyone have any details on the A vs B revision differences yet?

I just noticed that there is a new PMMN4107 mic (same, but no channel knob) that seems to replace the old XE RSM. Any feedback on those from current users?

Thanks.

I just got the following email from my sales manager regarding the XE500 RSM. Looks like they are still trying to figure them out:

"I just heard back from the accessories group - you can still order, the Black version is OK, but they are enhancing the green version again."

We just got 10 B-revision mics in a couple of weeks ago. I don't have any A-revision mics to test with, but in head-to-head competition with a standard NNTN8203 XE RSM the XE500 sounded noticeably clearer, with better highs (treble.) I also had an NMN6271A XP RSM to test with and it sounded close, if not identical to the XE500. This was with no changes made to the APX audio profiles from our baseline modified configuration.

One crazy thing I noticed with the XE500 mics: you can hold them at any angle up to arm's length from your face and it will still produce clear audio.

We have a large fleet of the first generation XE Speaker Mics, with Xtreme temp cords. Have served well in the two years being in service.

When the XE500's first came out, our regional /\/\ rep gave us two to evaluate. One was given to the Shift BCs and one to my busiest truck company. Within two weeks, both had apparent mic cord failures, where they would not connect to the radio. Shortly after they stopped shipping them. On the positive side, the 5 microphones on the XE500 provided notably better audio on analog and P25. I would not hesitate to use them again once the cord issue is figured out.

Holy cow, it's a "C" revision already. How long did "B" last...fifteen minutes? What's up, doc?
