F250 - APX6500 & XPR5550e

Post by sjxts3000 »

Have had the APX6500 (VHF) in the truck for quite a while. Just added an XPR5550e UHF with HHCH conversion kit.

Looks great, I like the O2 control head on the APX6500. What is the antenna setup on the truck?

Thanks,

Bill

When I installed the APX three years ago, I wasn't ready to drill holes in the roof of a relatively new truck (personal vehicle), so I opted for a magnet mount. I haven't had any issues with it since then and have had no complained of my Tx audio over the past three years, so I went with another magnet mount for the XPR. Standard Moto magnet mounts with Moto mobile antennas.

Thanks for the antenna info! How do you like the HHCH on the XPR? Are you using the speaker in the HHCH with the radio or do or have an external speaker as well?

The HHCH is great! The internal speaker in it is more than plenty loud and the conversion kit was very easy to install.

You're going to have issues over the long run with rain water collecting under the magnet and trashing the paint, so one way or another your roof isn't going to stay pristine.

I had six holes in my Caprice PPV before I'd made the first payment on it. Drill baby drill. 8)

We had a 7-year-drought-busting record rainfall last season. Truck is 100% parked outdoors. I check it (and clean it regularly). No issues so far after 3 years. I'm not worried.

Picked up a Gamber-Johnson bracket for the XPR5550e HHCH. Got tired of the head rattling around in the cup holder or side storage slot. Looks fairly decent next to the O2 head.
