I have a R2 Quantar VHF station with AC High and 120 watt PA
-When you program the PA over 50 watts the PA goes into Fail?
I tried Alignment in CPS and during this the PA goes to Fail?
If i keep power at 50 watts all is ok with PA?
is there a Burned Output Device? or circulator?
Would like to try and Fix? some way?
any ideas from the Group?
also have a R1 120 watt amp-Can this be converted to run-on R2?
was told about resistors that have to be changed to convert?

- What radios do you own?: XTS/XTL5000, AS+, etc.
Re: VHF QUANTAR PA 125W HAVING PROBLEMS
Look up the W9CR Wiki and he describes the resistor changes for changing bands.
As for the failure you're having - sounds like something is failing inside the PA and requires some bench work to troubleshoot and repair.
On a side note if you're interested in selling it - I would be possibly interested as I have a full repair bench... and a R2 VHF Quantar needing a PA.

Re: VHF QUANTAR PA 125W HAVING PROBLEMS
Well without getting to detailed - the TLD3101 and TLD3102 PAs were the same minus the built-in circulator and some resistors that make an "ID" for the module. The service manual shows the resistor IDs for each split, and the circulator was available via Motorola for less than $270 last time I looked.
The newer PAs seem to be completely identical - minus the ID resistors.
