Astro Spectra w/W9 control head ignition sense
I want to make an Astro Spectra with a W9 control head be switched on/off via the ignition sense wires (orange/green) that break out of the control cable at the back of the control head. I've looked through the manuals for the radio, and the control heads, but I'm not coming up with anything for the W9. I can find how to make this happen for other models of heads. What am I missing? Or can I simply switch the green lead on/off to make this happen? I'm much more familiar with the Syntor X9000 radios, and I know switching the green lead isn't a good idea with those, unless you want to reprogram things like the user-programmable scan list every time you power up.

Re: Astro Spectra w/W9 control head ignition sense
I think I found my answer. Upon a closer look at the control head manual, it appears that to make the W9 ignition switched simply requires connecting both the green and orange leads to an ignition switched source. I expected to have to change jumpers like is needed with the W4, 5, and 7 heads.

Scratch that. As I initially feared, switching the green lead causes all user selectable features to default themselves every time power is cycled, and that is unacceptable. Any body have a fix for this, or am I gonna have to make my own "SP" version mods?

Re: Astro Spectra w/W9 control head ignition sense
Unless I missed something, an "SP" mod was required. I basically installed a wire jumper to bypass the orange wire around the power switch inside the head. Works exactly like I want it to now, but I'm still wondering what I missed. Surely, Ma M provided a solution for this? Or did they do things backward, and lose features as the radios got fancier?
