Canberra ACT Australian Federal Police Setup

Post by twowayradio »

Need general info on what type of radio system the Australian Federal Police use in Australia.

I have a BRAND NEW XTS3000 403-470MHz and it has the encyption board installed.

I will be honest, i dont know much about this radio, its just that i got it for a really great price so i thought that i would take it.

I live in canberra and would just like general info on the AFP.

Regards,

Hi Daniel,

I live in South Australia and they have moved to the new radio system here as well, Over here there on the UHF low band as you stated and its Trunked and they are running Digital Encryption, DES I think,

I dont see the police department leaking out the DES key in a hurry so to be honest with you Good Luck.

I know here in SA the Ambo's, fire dept, and State Transport Authority dont run DES but are on the same network.

Hope this helps

What radios do you own?: XTS5000 VHF, M-RK II UHF

I have an Ericsson/MAComm M-RK radio that is in the 477MHz range. If I ever visit Australia. I can program it for CBRS. It will hold the 40 channels and have plenty to spare and its 4 watts. 8)

Hi Daniel,

Sorry, but the feds are, to the best of my knowledge, running encryption. Also your radio wont go past 482Mhz, even with hacked CPS software, and the AFP are located in the 485-490Mhz band.

Cheers,
Matt

The AFP in the ACT run DES-ofb 100%. The general duties police are on the 64 channel plan but the special sections are on the 489 channels. The SAPOL have their radios strapped to secure for most of the channels and run DES-ofb.

Short answer is your hooped in the ACT and SA.

uumm NSW police 8 zone radios(special ops) have fed police 489.575 etc and Aust protective services 485.525 etc programmed in them and they are H09RDH9PW1BN models. so they must be able to be stretched. normal nsw police radios(general duties police) only have 3 zone radios

Sam, I thought the NSW police used 450-512 split radios. I can't see the NSW Police using hacked 403-470 radios... can you?
