Astro Saber 1Meg vs. 512K

Post by 2wayfreq »

Hi,
I just acquired an AS3 H04SDH9PW7AN. It is the 512K version. I was wondering what options/channels will not be available?

As far as anyone can tell, you can have everything but the APCO25 9600 trunking control channel option. Other than that, your golden.

Hmm,
Something like receiving LAPD would be no dice?

If the radio has IMBE Digital operation, you can listen to LAPD. That's the only requirement.

ok, do this:

1) Turn your radio off then on

2) on the side of your astro you will see 2 buttons on the bottom, hit the one closest to the rear of the radio 6 times. (it should have 2 dots above it)

3) your radio screen will say service. It will then tell you 2 version numbers, then model #, then serial #, then weather it is 512 or 1 Meg and THEN IT WILL TELL YOU THE FLASHCODE. (note, it will say FLASHCD. the radio will display 1/2 the flashcoe at first, then the other half)

4) write down your flashcode in this format: ######-######-#

5) go here: http://www.trunkedradio.net/modules.php?name=Flash

6) enter your flashcode in the right format (######-######-# ex. 840101-8f0000-4)

7) after you click submit, it will tell you all the features that your radio has....

You are good to go, as long as your radio can Rx the UHF-T part of the band that they use.

Hi,
Yeah, Its 450-520. But I havent paid for it yet, I am just evaluating it. I will probably hold out for a 1Meg or an XTS3500 1 Meg. I am not even sure how many channels I should have in this one. My rib is in the shop and I dont have access in it yet.

I have a 512k, and it works perfectly, got all 255 channels filled up, without a prob at all, and got more stuff in that flashcode too lol, probally only bitching I have about it is that, because its an older version I guess being 512k, it sucks battery more then the 1meg, and for some reason too, on a 512k, Soft ID dose not work at all when trying to Recieve it, you can Transmit Soft ID perfectly, but trying to decode one, is impossible.

Never heard anything about a batter issue between the two. I must say, ever since I got rid of my 512k AS3's and went to 1 MEG AS3's, my batteries seem to have a shorter service life...

...then again they are in the truck all the time and it gets hot in there.

Dale,
Yours is 255 channels. Does your channel knob click 16 positions or does it rotate freely all the way around? Mine stops at 16.. is it broken up into zones of 16?

I know of no Astro Sabers with the free turing channel selector. If the Astro Saber you have is at a good price, buy it. If you are in the LA area though, you may want to consider an XTS3000 due to the fact that LAPD does use AS3's. May help keep you out of trouble a bit. Other than that, the AS3 will get you a couple more characters for the display then an XTS. XTS are a newer/recent line, but if you just going to RX with it, get the cheaper one.
