JT1000 and MTVA

So I've read it's possible to use a JT1000 w/ and MTVA. So I decided to try it.

when I put the JT1000 in the MTVA, it starts to charge, as is expected, but when you turn it on it goes into constant transmit. I'm only looking to use the MTVA to listen to it on, not even to transmit with it.

Any ideas?

What is the date of manufacture on the JT?
