Just think, those cans get about as much range as today's FRS radios.

Really, those cans will get "up to 45KMs"? Wow, that's one hell of a string!

I saw this on the auction site and managed to snag it. I'm not sure how common these were but this is the first one I've ever seen on the used market and it seems to function properly. I know it uses the standard Saber/MX/Radius antenna connector but does anyone know if they made a special antenna for these radios? Anyone have a manual?

Don't know about the antenna, I don't think it was anything special. I do know they made a white and black version of the radio.

Low power UHF HT220 in simplex with a VHF antenna? Its still quite a find and in superb condition!

Ahh you have a sharp eye - the antenna is not original although it came with the radio The seller I bought it from had a few more VHF HT220's but in crap condition the name badges all too often seen scuffed then there was this little unit right here . It looks to be a HT220 CC unit! Roger 1-ADAM-12 I know they used HT200's on the show
Can someone decode the model number? H24FFN3173D SP32 special product version 32?
Would this be the predecessor to the Motorola APCOR biophones?

Those were used in combination with vehicle mounted Micor UHF telemetry units. The ones we had years ago were .5 watt and simplex they talked into the micor and was repeated out via the mounted micor. Its a little before my time but from what I hear it didnt work all that great and most times they did the telemetry from the rig anyway

Yes that IS correct. The rig had a special Micor that was a vehicular repeater.

That is a very cool find.
My few left over HT220 manuals show that basic model number to be exactly what is shown.
4 freq, PL, 1 watt, external mic.
I don't have any SP's in these manuals.
I think the ECG plugged into the miniature phono jack on the right, the earphone or speaker on the left phono jack.

Used for remote control of security camera systems. More buttons could be added for multiple cameras with right, left, up, down, pan and tilt. Also such functions as auto-pan, zoom, focus, iris, etc. Even camera housing heater, window washer and wiper. External devices such as intercom to the camera site and gate control. All depended on dollars available for the security department. All controlled over 2-wire connection via digital signal. I had two of them in my service area back in the mid 80's.

I was watching an ebay lot today that went for more than I was willing to pay.... hopefully it went to a board member and not someone who will trash everything but the MT2000 in the lot. Anyway.. the lot included a couple of oddballs that I have never seen.

#1) The Saber-STX mutation of a radio above the P50 at the lower right

#2) The odd-looking radio above the MTX-810 at far right

#3) The odd-looking HHCH next to the Astro HHCH (EDIT: I see this is a STX Convertacom HHCH, still an oddball though)

Can anyone identify these?

Years ago a friend won a radio lot from the city of Hollywood Florida. I was looking through some paperwork, & in the early 90's they went with a GE system using MRK radios. But I did see paperwork from Motorola who also supplied documentation for the bid. To this day I swear I saw a brochure for a digital STX. Funny model # etc. The Astro Saber was not out yet. So was there ever a Vselp STX, or was the word digital used very loosely in the description of the radio? GARY

That's a STX with the Gemini controller. That's the advanced one with touch pad. It does Type II trunking, but is not rebandable.

Yea I seen that thing, looks like an MTX STX front & the clear speaker mic looks cool . auction went for 100 bucks anyway . The MT2000 looks like UHF I've might have put in a bid if it was VHF.
What I want to know is whats that thing with the Motorola University cutter on it between the MT500 & P50 ? looks vintage

That looks like an N107X series Pageboy.
Had a little red button on the top to reset the page.
I modified one by making a carrier squelch board and used it to monitor my work frequency of 460.325 when HT's were scarce and too expensive for me to buy.
Had a REALLY sensitive receiver.
I sure wish I had kept a lot of that old stuff...

Ha. The northeast crew was up at my house for a weekend party and hung stx, chargers and similar from my dog tie out and .223, .45 and .40 made quick work of them

The stx charger with all it's metal survived the longest.

I have a SPAS 12 gauge. Full auto. It's fun to get people to throw items, but it requires strict range discipline. I don't let everyone swing machine guns around when I'm there, only those I have vetted.

I thought I was the only one that blew up old equipment. You should see what a 50BMG does to a 6 foot Micor cabinet with the guts still in it....

Sure seems like there was a whole lot of prototype stuff in that lot (clear speaker mic, odd HHCH above it). I wonder if some M engineer cleaned out his junk pile at home.

Here's the auction link, I found it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorola-Huge-L ... 7675.l2557

It ended at $103! And guess, what after updating this post here, I found the auction says this: "This is a huge lot of Motorola items purchased from the estate sale of a Motorola Retire."

TONS OF PROTOTYPE STUFF IN THAT AUCTION, NO DOUBT. I'd have paid $1k!

They refer in the auction to one of the radios as being an "STX II". Anyone?

I'd also like more information & detailed photos of these "Gemini" STX radios!

I mean, just look at this stuff!

It's my pleasure! I've been busy with my regular job and photography gigs, but I plan on photographing all the radios I've acquired over the years. The plan is to shoot them all in my light tent from every angle- eventually submitting these to the main batlabs site. They'd all be 'floating' on a white background. Figured it'd be nice to have high resolution images for as many portable Motorola radios as possible. It'd be my small way of giving back to batlabs community.

mike great score on that auction!

i have a mint condition 1973-1976 motorola product manual with fold out technical brochures for every radio, antenna, and security item i believe motorola made at the time im looking for a PDF creator program that i can organize pages in and then create PDFs of each and make available to batlabs site. theres some uncommon stuff in this book :)

Too bad the Genesis/Saber hybrid never made it into production, as it probably would have been a very popular model among public safety users. That STX II with the keypad overlapping the battery was doomed to failure, though.. can you imagine how easily that thing would have broken off in service?

Have you been inside either one yet? I'm guessing expanded logic inside the display boards mated with Genesis RF decks.

The STX is glued shut, so I'm going to take my time with it. The rubber keypad is/was held in place with some glue. The Saber/Genesis mashup powers on, shows all characters on the display and generates tones, etc. I'll open it up and share it when I get some time.
