Probably a broken leg on the sythensizer crystal.

Look at your crystal that oscilates all the freqs for the radio to see if one leg came loose from the board.

This was very common in the p100 handhelds and id bet its common in the ht600 also.

If this is the case then consider after repairing expoxy glueing just a corner on the crystal away from other components to stabilize the crystal from doing it again in the future.

But dont get carried away so that if removing the crystal or another part
gets to be dificult due to expoxy on other components ect.

Hi.

It sounds like the PLL is out-of-lock. Maybe a defective VCO,
or like ELB said, the four legged 16.8Mhz reference oscillator
has a problem. When the radio was dropped very hard, the
x-tal-element inside the oscillator break off sometimes.

Thank very much

John,
I know you said you have a good code plug in it. Did this include checking the
radio split screen ? I had a bunch of radios from the gov't. and there way of rendering
the radio inop. was telling a 157-174 radio that it was a 136-151 split. It then behaved
exactly as your describing until I went into the bandsplit screen corrected the split and entered valid freq's. for that range and then wrote it to the radio, all worked A-OK.
