Commport NTN8819A issues

I got a used NTN8819A commport microphone system in with some other items today. I can't get it to work with my Astro Saber, XTS3000, or XTS5000 using the hirose adapters for all of the radios.
Does the commport require something special to work or internal batteries like the old voiceducer did? I have hirose to commport/PTT button cables and the commport unit itself, but no manual.
