I finally got my GP2000 in the other day and was wanting to fill whoever in on the radio a bit. Its easy to program, 99 channels, multiple scan list, 8 digit alpha display, it has similar icons like the ht1250/ht1550, from what I have read about it it is somewhat waterproof. in a ad I seen on a foreign motorola web site it shows a guy pouring a bucket of water over it. The battery fits very very tight on the radio. it has four programmable buttons. the only downfall I see so far is that it came with a stubby antenna which suck. accessories for P110 and GP300 will work with it too! I will try and post some info from the manual about the programming and etc........

Donnie. Would be appreciate it if somekind of writeup on the programming can be shared by everyone who need that. Waterproof? I don't put took much hope on that on the GP2000. Just watch out on the rubber 'lip' on the radio battery connector. Have heard they will break when too much of battery sliding in and out from the radio because they fit too tight. Not sure which version of the stubby that you are referring to. Is it the tapered type?

I got mine in too, luckily I only paid cost on it. It has some nice features, but the antenna sucks. The other thing I don't like is that it is built like a cheap FRS radio. The 99 channels is nice along with all the things it will do, but overall I was disappointed with the housing.

What does the audio sound like, is it loud enough?

The audio is loud enough, but doesn't sound as crisp and clear as the xpand technology, but not a bad radio. The housing is made of cheap plastic, its like your paying alot of a FRS radio with alot of channels and frequencies. If you have to pay much more than $200, you're getting ripped off. I bought mine for $187/cost.

Sources to buy a GP2000 please?

Only place I've found on the web is $300+.

Also please explain how the memory channels are set up for scanning. Is there a limit to the number of freqs per scan list?

Sounds like a step up from my GP68 for features but step back for quality.

Thanks

Having compared several other Motorola Keypad programmable portables such as the JT1000, CP50, GP68, and GP200. I feel that you are better off getting a dual band ham radio that would suit your needs. The housing on the GP2000 is cheap, and any radio that offers a key chain / wristband hook on the housing I tend to think of them as "TOY" radios. The audio is very poor, with plenty of hissing, and poor attenuation. Basically you get what you pay for. For $200.00 it is an upscale FRS radio with more power, bells, and whistles. I would rather go with a JT1000, however due to expense, I would chose the CP50 or the GP68 way before the GP2000. Although a easy way to rectify the poor audio might be using a accessory such as a speaker microphone or surveillance set. Furthermore, I would wait at least one "Motorola Quarter" to see what problems arise on this newly released portable. I guess the big question is why not just use the RSS for other quality "m" radios. I know it is nice to have agency interoperability, or on site immediate communication but why not just prepare for that on a RSS programmable radio. Most of the regular users have a setup for programming (i.e. cables, and rib). With laptops being so cheap it is very easy to keep one in your service van or car for last minute on site reprogramming. One last note, I found the software for the GP2000 much easier to use than via keypad programming methods. It time to jump off the soap box but I would wait until you spend your hard earned money on such new equipment.

The antenna is the small stubby cone type and it sucks i've already changed to a standard VHF antenna and it helped alot. Honest I saw an ad online from over in another country about the GP2000 and a guy was pouring a bucket of water over a GP2000. The case seems kinda good to me but it doesnt feel like the regular motorola case. The battery does fit VERY tight. The audio seems good so far. Most have said that the TX isnt to bad either. You can only scan 16 channels  It has the VFO and its pretty easy to program. To enter program mode turn off the radio and turn it on holding the top side button while turning on. Then to advance to each channel and so on just keep pushing the PTT and to go backwards push the top side button again. The plus/minus channel button is the main thing used in the programming. It has a Prime channel option like the Home revert for a HT1550 say. The battery seems to hold up a good bit. 4 option buttons that can be programmed for various things like: Light/Scan/HiLow/RptTa/PrimeCh/Mon/Alias/KeypadLock/NusDelt/ a few more the buttons to the short/long press feature A-B-C-D. The manual that came with mine is made all in one big page. I'm gonna try and scan it in different sections and post it if I can. I just wish the special battery for the HT1550 would come out soon. If you need any more info from the GP2000 just give me a yell. Donnie
