I know the R2600B without a tracking generator would be an R2600B-NT. If a model just has R2600B/MS on the label, does this mean with a tracking generator or how else would one know if with or without since no "NT" is present; without actually seeing it in person?

When the "B" version of the R2600 came out, the tracking generator was a standard feature. The customer could "omit" the TG to save a few hundred $ when he ordered his analyzer. This is when the NT came onto the model #. The HS would designate the high stability oscillator, so an R2600B/HS would be the standard series (tracking generator included) analyzer with a high stab osc.

Believe on the 2600.2600A.2600B and 2550 the tracking gen was optional. The 2600C and later had it as standard except for the noted 2600C-NT version

Thanks for info. I meant /HS, not /MS. I wasn't sure about the high stability xtal, but a little google search cleared it up. I weant ahead and purchased it. I have used an R2600, but have never bought one. I am seriously upgrading from my IFR 1000S. I need some much more advanced functions. Thanks again and any additional info appreciated on owning one. I also have an R2210B, which is great but no spectrum analyzer.

Dave is correct.

The tracking generator was standard on the R2600B unless deleted by ordering R2600B-NT.

There was no tracking generator available on the R2600A. Also the spectrum analyzer on the R2600A was limited to a maximum 10MHz span.

That was increased to 100 MHz in the 2600B when the 50 MHz tracking generator was added.

Most of the data sheets floating around are for the 2600C vintage so that's where I assumed it came in as the standard.

Actually not sure the initial 2600/ 2600A officially had the tracking gen ...just the sweep generator and the SA was limited to a 10Mhz window ...pretty much like the 2001D in that regard.

Well I got it this week and it is perfect. I am reading through the manual to learn how to set up some more advanced functions; tracking generator and duplex mode. I am wondering what one of the R2600B/HS units cost when new. Anyone know what the retail price on these were when new?

IIRC when the R-2001D was replaced by the R-2600A, the 2001D went for $19,500 and the R2600A went for around $12.700 (yes an actual price decrease with more advanced technology). The "B" version was about the same. The main reason for the change from the "A" to the "B", a major component on the processor board was made "obsolete". The processor board had to be redesigned to accommodate the change in components.
